We remember the first three numbers, then we have a space, and then we remember the last four numbers. That’s what we do with telephone numbers. He found that numbers are easier to memorize if you chunk the numbers by taking long strings and breaking them up into parts. In his 1955 paper “ The Magical Number Seven, Plus or Minus Two,” George Miller, a Harvard psychology professor, discusses a principle called chunking. As it turns out, there is a limit to how many digits your brain can naturally hold. You may be wondering, then, why the average digit span of adults is that of a seven-year-old child. For children, the ability to memorize one digit per year of age is normal, so a two-year-old can remember two digits, a three-year-old can remember three, and so on. A normal adult digit span is between five and seven. How Many Digits?Ī digit span can be increased by practice-you start at five and work your way up. It focuses attention, and it focuses concentration. First of all, it’s a quick test of whether you are a visual or auditory learner. There are benefits of doing both visual and auditory spans. You can check at the end by turning them face up again. Write the lists, turn them face down, look at them quickly one at a time, and then try to remember the sequence as you saw it. Next, you can do this exercise visually by writing your lists on a piece of paper. Then play the recording to check for accuracy. Several hours later, listen to the lists, pause, and then write down as many of those strings that you can recall. Next, put them aside for a while and clear your mind. You’ll probably want to group them so that all the five-digit strings are together, the six-digit strings are together, and so on. Read a series of five, six, seven, and eight-digit strings into a recorder. Restak recommends the digit span exercise to strengthen auditory and visual short-term memory. Every day of our lives, we can strengthen our memory through active efforts to learn new information by reading or taking courses. Some of these short-term memories eventually get converted into long-term memories, and you then have that information stored in your brain and no longer have to make an effort to retrieve it. Short-term memory, by contrast, encompasses events in the near past and is maintained through active rehearsal-for example, you might keep going over science facts immediately before a test. Long-term memories are distant memories such as meeting your spouse or ingrained skills such as riding a bike. Memory falls into two categories: short-term and long-term. Photo by romeovip_md / Shutterstock Short-Term Memory Digit span memory usually holds between five to seven numbers in a sequence for a brief time in short-term memory before it is forgotten. Restak describes our brain’s capacity for memorizing numbers and how we can give our brains-and memory-a boost. One thing I’ve always wanted to do was to invest in bakeware that patrons can check out. You can make your cookbook into a fundraiser for your library’s friends group or for the club itself. A community recipe cookbook is always sought after by locals and tourists. When you have a constant attendance of regulars, think about starting your own recipe cookbook. Keep a list of cookbooks that you can get readily so you don’t have to hunt for them every month. Many times, good cookbooks aren’t always the popular cookbooks and other libraries don’t stock them as much as they do the ones in high demand. Be sure pick a cookbook that you can get copies for. Graduate to a Recipe Cookbook Club, where you can pick out a popular cookbook, bring copies in from other libraries for your members to check out, and create some of the recipes featured. But the best way to showcase a food is to bring samples of it for members to taste. As a courtesy, I also like to print out information on the ingredient featured, like how it is grown, any unusual features about it, where you can get it if it is a more difficult to find ingredient, and the nutritional value. And of course, my favorite, Lemon Bars from Ree Drummond at The Food Network. Braised Chicken with Artichokes, Olives, and Lemon is from Martha Stewart. Just googling Lemon Recipes, I found several places to go for reliable recipes. Search for recipes that contain lemon, and it doesn’t just have to be desserts. Start your Recipe Club with a theme gather recipes that pertain to that theme and make copies to be handed out at your first meeting. Not only do we talk about food, we eat food, too! We meet right before lunch, but that’s okay. Once a month, twice a month, or weekly, you can have a group that loves to talk about food! What could be better? Out of all my regularly scheduled programs, this one is my favorite. Multiple attack animations, like the Halberd Has 1 blind spot between attacks due to slow attacking speed. Unstable weapon due to bulky nature, and works well for waves of targets. Gate,on the baseball field-right near Gym, near School shop, killing or stealing from Bad girl and boy.Ĭan trigger an easter egg: a Baseball game if the player brings a lover with them to the baseball field, and the player stands in the corner near the blue helmet. Multiple animations can also be a negative thing because the animations can not be chosen, and has 2 blind spots when used. Has multiple animations, high attack speed, extremely high range, high damage, good AOE weapon Same as the Katana but with shorter range. Similar to the Sword, but possesses one blind spot with only two attack animations. The cons for this include slow attack speed, medium-range, unreasonable high damage. The ax has one blind spot but can take no notice due to its high range. Gate, infirmary under 3rd bed, killing KillersĪxes to kill crawling Zombies are even used by Killers. Time-consuming attack speed, unpredictable animations switching, short-range, the disadvantages outrun the only advantage: good damage. using it usually results in your death before anything dies. This is a must-have weapon for Killers event as it protects you better than any other weapon, surpassing the performance of even guns. When performing a "Sawing" attack, you become immune to most melee threats (Attack from zombies, Catch from teachers, attacks from Killers won't reach you, even if you stand within range of multiple zombies-teachers-killers at the same time!) this is a unique ability a sword offers. The best blade weapon, with very high damage (400 ~ 450 damages per second ) and high attack speed, have no blind spots between attack animations. Requires perfect aim, usually used together with targets affected by Petrification or Frozen due to being still. Knife, with a different physical appearance The knife has a unique method of attacking by going near the target and backstabbing them. It is ineffective against enemies at a far distance but effective against close-range enemies, allowing The Player to form a dangerous barrier without hurting them. Questionable usage, the small attack hitbox, and has a high chance of killing the player due to the unknown timing of the flame. It's possible to use a scope to aid aiming however, your movement speed and camera speed remain the same, making the scope serve no purpose. Upon picking it up, you'll find a unique base magazine with 5 mags.Ĩ rounds per mag. The gun with the most ammo capacity is -150 ammo per mag. Very useful against close-range enemies, and the aiming works well even for very distant targets ( as far as 40m). Versatile weapon switch when using the M4.Įach round shot contains five small frag bullets, making this weapon a literal barrage of firepower. This weapon however has no effects on the vehicles on the Police Station or the cars the Player can use.ĭamage is 123-60 each shot, depend on distance from the shell of the NPCs. Good weapon to protect corners due to its explosive nature.Ĭan blow up and knock back cars when hit. You could kill multiple targets at once in one shot using this weapon, but be careful, if it is aimed to close to the player, they can also die. Good use for general situations, like sniping or fighting solo enemies. Sakuras carry these, but unlike the Rocket Launcher, they will not drop them within death. Gate, hidden behind the Pool, Police station however, also the NPC might fail and die. It can be to an NPC to kill zombies or killers. Students will find teachers, Sakuras will attack the player, and other NPCs will run away. All guns cause suspicion when carrying them, but if shots have fired, this will cause NPCs to start reacting. I am not looking to use any of the online sources but local source on my NAS. I have all Online Media Sources disabled. If I were using one of LMS or the various Volumio type variants, switching to Plexamp would be a complete no-brainer.Plex (server) shows my music library correctly, but when I launch PlexAmp - I am unable to add any libraries. It's early days, it's not Roon (nor will it ever be), but it's promising and it delivers. I thoroughly enjoyed my listening this weekend.Īs a Roon lifer I'll stick with Roon when I'm in the mood to explore my library and sit down to albums, but when I'm just in the mood to have music of a certain style, feel and mood wash over me Plexamp will be my goto DJ. Overall, what Super Sonic enables is its most compelling feature - a built-in DJ that really knows his/her shit and can surface real nuggets in your collection you've long forgotten about or not thought of playing. The app on a Linux desktop is woeful (I'm guessing it'd be no different on Windows/MAC) - basically an emulated smartphone interface, so I'd definitely use it on smartphone/tablet rather than PC UI - not bad, but feels rather primitive compared with Roon and I think at this stage its biggest negative (for me).I used it all weekend, and this is one area I'd say it beats Roon's Valence hands down - reason being it actually knows something about the acoustic properties of the music in your collection, so its choices are based on that rather than people who like this typically like that etc. For anyone that's enjoyed MusicIP in years past (or still does in the form of Spicefly Sugarcube on LMS) this is a real boon to listening when you don't want to think about what to listen to next. Super Sonic is a fantastic feature that enables Plexamp to create perpetual radio from your music library based on a seed song, album, artist etc.One could do the same in Roon with Tags & Bookmarks, but I think Plex are onto something here, and then coupled with Super Sonic I feel it's really got an upper handin this dept. It auto generates some interesting "radio" stations / views of your music library allowing easy access into cross sections of your library which can also be used to kick off radio sessions etc.It auto fetches artist pictures, album artwork etc (and filled blanks where Roon didn't).It clearly uses TiVo () genre, style & mood metadata to enable browsing/exploration of your music, showing related artists, similar artists etc.Library ingestion is quick and pretty accurate (and you have the choice of leveraging or ignoring file based metadata).supports Tidal integration, Chromecast, AirPlay & probably a host of other protocols (I only tried Chromecast using it as a transport).enables you to play your music in and outside of your home - basically if you can access your home network you can play your music. Here's a quick synopsis of my experience: I let it ingest and analyse a portion (about 500 albums) of my music collection and went about using it as my front-end for listening on the weekend. Having recently become aware of Plexamp, and in particular its Super Sonic audio analysis engine I purchased a lifetime Plex Pass on the weekend (available for $89.99 USD through 23:59 UTC on Novemfor those interested). There's other proper software for that I think. And in webtrees you record only the people you know are related to each other. This all makes DNA tests not very usable for amateur genealogists, which is the public that uses webtrees. you will have to do the proper archive work to reveal the full details of the relation. If you want to use DNA tests in larger populations, there are some challenges:ġ) who funds the research? Are you really that rich? Or is this an "academic" question?Ģ) who is selected to have their DNA analysed, and on what criteria?ģ) will you have whole villages tested? they will not like you peeking into their percentage of inbreed.Ĥ) moral dilemma: you will shatter lives and ruin happy families when your tests show with 95% certainty that somebody's biological father is not who they thought it was (with 5% chance the test is wrong)ĥ) the rightmost "x" in your diagram remains a question mark with DNA tests. That means that only offspring of two of my 128 forefathers of 7 generations ago are included. Also I think it's a challenge to prove DNA relationships with people other than the direct paternal or maternal line, because the tests are based on either the y-chromosome (father to son) or mitochondrial DNA (mother to children). Other interesting relations (like the second husband of.) cannot be shown at all with DNA tests. Sorry, I think it makes no sense at all to do this with webtrees.ĭNA tests are great to prove any two random people are related or not, either through a common father or common mother. The state of Michigan itself has been in court for years with Enbridge in an effort to shut down Line 5, fearing a disaster in the Straits of Mackinac, the ecologically sensitive region where the pipeline crosses the Great Lakes. The pipeline - which transports up to 540,000 barrels per day of light crude oil, synthetic crude and natural gas liquids to be refined into propane - was built in 1953 and supplies 55 per cent of the state's propane needs.īut in recent years, it has become a flashpoint for environmentalists and U.S. The development comes as yet another blow for Enbridge's embattled Line 5 pipeline in Michigan. “We greatly appreciate the meaningful input received throughout scoping and will use this information to shape studies and continuing consultations throughout development of our draft environmental impact statement.” said USACE Detroit District Commander Lt. However, the USACE revised its timeframe for the environmental review after receiving more than 17,000 public comments during its initial "scoping period." It also said the project would cover only 6.4 km in length, require no construction within the waters of the straits, and is anticipated to impact less than one-quarter acre of wetlands. The company said the tunnel will be bored through rock, as much as 100 feet below the lakebed, to "virtually eliminate" the chance of a pipeline spill affecting the Great Lakes. "As such, the USACE is estimating it will need six years to review and issue a decision for the project," Duffy said.Įnbridge's Great Lakes tunnel project is intended to house a replacement segment of its existing Line 5 oil pipeline that crosses the bottom of the straits connecting Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. He added Enbridge first submitted its application for the Great Lakes tunnel project in April 2020. "While we are supportive of a thorough, comprehensive and carefully considered permitting process that ensures adequate opportunity for review and comment, we are disappointed with the extended timeline for a project of this scope," Duffy said. In an emailed statement, Enbridge spokesman Ryan Duffy said the USACE's decision to extend the permitting process further delays the replacement of the dual pipelines in Michigan's Straits of Mackinac, and will essentially push the start of construction until at least 2026. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) said Thursday it now expects to complete its draft environmental impact statement for Enbridge's Line 5 tunnel permit application in spring 2025, rather than late 2023 as earlier indicated. federal review of Enbridge's proposed $500-million Great Lakes tunnel project has been pushed back by more than a year. The company said Thursday it was "disappointed" by news that the timeline of a U.S. has been dealt another setback on its Line 5 replacement project in Michigan.
